Memories Manor in Michigan

Hello all from St Clair, Michigan!
I'm still working but now my view has switched from the cottage
to a Scrapbooking Bed & Breakfast.  I am with 16 other women
sharing our passion of Scrapbooking and papercrafting.
I am very inspired and of course learning how it feels to be
spoiled so that I can spoil all of our guests at the craftD Christmas
Retreat in October.
Today I was working on Thanksgiving cards for the card class at
my house on Wednesday night.  This is one of the cards I made using
the French Foilage stamp set.

My friend Heather is making some very cool back to school gifts for her classroom.
These owls are made with the Sizzix  pillow box dies, the 1 1/4 and 3/4 inch
circle punches, large oval punch and the Heart to Heart punch.
She got the idea from Lynn Put and I love them.

We have seen some very strange signs during our travels.  For example, I was
approaching the cashier to pay for my selections when I saw a sign.  It read,
Please form 3 lines.  I looked at Heather and said, "How do we form three
lines when there is only two of us?"

AND THE WINNER IS.......

WHO'S NOTEBOOK IS WHO'S?

We had so much fun reading all your responses.  Nobody got all 3 correct but you are all still winners to us.
Families, prepare! As we are homeward bound.

Make Room For More

Tonight is our last night at the cottage.  We want to stay
and yet we are ready to see our loved ones. I wish that
Irv and the kids could just come and join me so I could
spend one more week here.  I love the water.  That isn't
happening so we are packing up tonight and checking
our notebooks to make sure we have everything listed
that we need to bring next year.
DON'T FORGET TO CHECK TOMORROW FOR
THE ANSWER TO WHO'S NOTEBOOK IS WHO'S?
I was working on a scrapbook layout of the cottage today.
I wish we had a photo printer so we could add the photo's
to it now.  So into my list of things to bring next year is a
photo printer. I think there was a small space left for a photo printer.
This is Ria's Dodge Grand Caravan SE and we filled it.

And here is my layout that I made today using Stampin' Up's
Paisley Petals Designer Series Paper.  It was inspired by a layout that
Vicki Boutin showcased in the Summer Edition of Scrapbook & Cards Today
Here is a close up of the journal notes.

Don't forget to check here tomorrow for the answer to
WHO'S NOTEBOOK IS WHO'S?

Shopping in town

I don't want to brag or make anyone jealous or anything, but I can still fit into the earrings I wore in high school.
I received this quote from my good friend Cindy Ray the other day and it made
 me laugh.
Today, we decided to do a little shopping in town.   I saw a pair of running
shoes that I liked and I asked the store clerk if they came in a size 7 1/2.
The clerk responded, "ladies? No, they only come in youth sizes."
I turned to put them back and Marissa said that the shoe looked pretty big.
The clerk then proceeded to say that it  is a Europe size.
I tried them on and what do you know a perfect fit.
So after only 1 week at the cottage I am proud to say that I am a size 4.
Woohoo! I haven't been a size 4 in a long time. Oh, come to think of it,
I've never been a size 4.  Yes, I know I'm talking about a shoe size but
noone else needs to know.
So here is my new shoe. The photo doesn't capture the glitter on them.
You know I am all about the glitter.

Who's Journal is Who's

Are you ready to play a little game?
For our trip to the cottage I packed heavy.  Well, light on the clothes but heavy
on the Scrappin' and Stampin' Supplies.  Ria packed heavy too.
Marissa packed light and was kidding with us that we had to keep
track of everything we used and we are only allowed to bring what
we used back to the cottage next year.
Ria and I were up for the challenge.  This week we will use everything we brought.
On our first trip to town for supplies we found these notebeooks for 15 cents each.
We thought they would be perfect for keeping track of what we used.
We shout out every time we use a tool or an ink pad or a piece of paper.
It's really funny.  My favourite moments are when Marissa asks to borrow something.
"OF COURSE!", I shout.  "It's a good thing, I brought that!"
Today Marissa was decorating the cover of her notebook and I thought
that was a great idea.  We all decorated our notebooks and we thought
it would be fun to play a game.  So my friends.......
can you guess who's is who's?
There are 3 notebooks.  There are 3 of us.   So leave us a comment below
 and guess who's is who's?
Marissa, Ria and Denise.  The pictures are in no particular order
but we will call them Notebook 1, Notebook 2, and Notebook 3

Notebook 1
Notebook 2
Notebook 3

Everyone who guesses correctly will have their names put in a draw.
The draw will be for a notebook to decorate and a Stampin' Up! grab bag
of items to decorate it with.
We are leaving on Sunday morning for home so we will draw
             a winner  Sunday morning.
              Let the guessing begin.

Reading and Making Cards

Today was a little cooler weather than yesterday but the sun was shining.  Did I ever mention that I have the best job ever.  Being able to do my job while laying under a comfy blaket, on the dock, sipping a pina colada is fantastic.  In this picture I am reading my Stampin' Success magazine. I have my pen,  sticky notes and highlighter at the ready. This FREE magazine is one of my many perks as a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator and it is full of fabulous ideas and samples.
Are you jealous?    O.K. well the truth is that I had just gotten into that chair and in the perfect position, just long enough for Ria to snap this picture.  The picture we don't have is the one where 2 seconds later, we
are grabbing our belongings and running madly to the cottage as the clouds above opened up and poured on us.  What a hoot!!!
After changing into some dry clothes I got to work making some cards.
One of the other perks I get as a demonstrator is being able to order from the upcoming holiday mini catalogue one month in advance so I can play.

Stamping and Scrapping with a View

I'm so sorry I have not blogged to share with you in the last few days.  I have not stopped working on classes or preparing for our fantastic Christmas Retreat at Elmhurst. I am still working on all of those things and I am still taking phone calls and answering emails. The element that has changed is my view.
Yes, I am working from a cottage located close to Parry Sound, just off Highway 400, on the shores of beautiful Lake Manitouwabing.
This is my view for this week and yes I have been in the paddle boat and in the lake swimming each day. I love being by the water.
I am here with two of my fabulous friends, Marissa and Ria.  When we arrive at the cottage we take a photo of how the furniture is arranged so that we can put it back.  This is our "before" picture.
We ordered fruit and veggie trays from the local grocery store. We brought folding tables from home and we use the futons as shelving.  One chair gets moved into a bedroom and then "Voila!"  This is what our work area for the week looks like.
So hello from Lake Manitouwabing.  I am still just a phone call or email away.

10 minutes to put up a Door

The picture and post for today was going to be pictures of Laryssa's new door. Laryssa (my darling daughter) is moving out and her new apartment needed a door. Irv was going to put up the door and just needed some muscle. Laryssa's boyfriend Ben offered to be the muscle. Then my best friend/sister in law, Diane called and invited us to family dinner. I was saying we couldn't make it but then she came up with the great idea that my brothers could help put up the door, making it a speedy process and then we can have a late family dinner.
Irv was thrilled and said that with all this help the door would be up in 10 minutes
I told him to take lots of pictures and then I would blog about the door and include pictures of our family dinner.
Lol. It is 11:00 pm now and there is no sign of them. My battery is dyeing and I think Diane is questioning her decision to volunteer my brothers. We are sitting here waiting to see how happy are husbands are with us.
The family is all together but just in two places.

Creative Station

This is the newest addition to the craftDbear Studio.  It is actually a buffet for a dining room but Irv and I thought it would work perfectly to hold my big shots, trimmers and tools.  We actually went to Ikea to
buy a couple of more cupboards for the wall units but as we passed through the kitchen section this caught our eye.
Last night the Pink Posies were here for their monthly card class and this table allowed me to keep from cluttering their tables.  Of course it won't fix the problem of me picking up their scissors and walking away with them.
However, I might have a solution for that.  I will show you in an upcoming blog post.
Now I'm off to order 3 packages of my favourite designer series paper and get 1 package for FREE.

Swapping and Designing

Tuesday, August 2, 2011

One of my favourite activities with Stampin' Up! is swapping cards with other demonstrators. Not only do you get to make new friends but you get to take home some of their great designs.
This is a card I got at convention from Gloria Penwell of Windsor Junction, Canada.

I loved the design of this card and the colours.  I think it is absolutely gorgeous.

Tonight I am participating in another swap and I needed to make a card using the Just Believe stamp set from the Stampin' Up! Idea Book and Catalogue and I needed to use a technique.
This is the card I made that was inspired by Gloria's card.

These are the steps I took to make my card.
1.  Looked at the stamp set Just Believe (required to use for swap) and my swap cards and chose a card (Gloria's) based on the stamps.
2.  I used Gloria's card as a sketch so that I could create my card. Next, I chose"black magic" as  a technique that I would use in my card.
3.  I stamped the image from the Just Believe stamp set with Whisper White craft ink  on basic black card stock.
4.  Began selecting the colours I would use. I actually was going to use baja breeze but then chose tempting turquoise and then ended with Rich Razzleberry and Pear Pizzazz.  I am a visual person so I usually just play with each colour of cardstock until I am happy with the look and sometimes it just comes down to what colour of coordinating ribbon I have in stock.
5.  Cut the cardstock.
Whisper White 5 1/2x 8 1/2 scored at 4 1/4
Rich Razzleberry 5 3/8 x 4 1/8
Pear Pizzaz  5 1/4 x 4
Rich Razzleberry 4 3/8 x 2 1/2
Pear Pizzazz 4 1/4 x 2 3/8
Basic Black 4 1/8 x 2 1/4
6. Punch out 1 Modern Label from  Rich Razzleberry
7. Stamp sentiment from "Just Believe" stamp set in Rich Razzleberry and punch out with word window punch.
8. Use Sponge daubers and Rich Razzleberry and Pear Pizzazz ink to colour the white image.
9. Outline with Stampin' Up! White gel pen.
10.  Use a two way glue pen and add dazzling diamonds glitter.
11.  Use the scallop border corner punch to punch out the top right corner of the black piece and the large pear pizzazz piece of cardstock.
12. Use the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder and run the largest pear pizzazz piece through the Big Shot.
13.  Glue together.
  14. Use rich razzleberry 1/4 inch grosgrain ribbon to wrap around image and tie in a knot.
   15. Use dimensionals to pop up the image.
   16. Add sentiment with dimensionals.

Voila!  A similar card and yet very different.  I made 12 of these cards and I'm off to swap them now.
